The basic stitch in crochet is a loop which is repeated in numerous different ways to make patterns. It is one of the easiest ways of making anything. It can be loose to make lace or tight to make a bowl for your fruit. It can imitate - Arran cables, Icelandic patterns, Tambour Embroidery. Then of course there is the beautiful flowers and patterns of Irish Crochet.
As it does not 'run' when you drop a stitch it is very easy to make your own patterns. A summer top is simplicity itself and because the stitches are easy to master it can look incredibly effective (see my top in the video above). When you have mastered the technique why not book another lesson to go through the technique of creating your own patterns with me.
I learned to crochet when I was 18 - over 30 years ago - from my mother and I have been an enthusiast ever since. I use British terminology and can also use, create and explain symbol patterns. My latest project was to combine a woven square with crochet to make a bag for my small looms. The surround was crocheted into the square so the material was as one.
Anything that can bend can be crocheted, I have used wire to make jewellery and small purses, strips of material to make a mat, string for belts and bags and the list goes on. The fun is trying it out, seeing what the texture is and deciding if it is something you can use.
So, if you are a novice or already crochet and want to expand your knowledge book a lesson with me and we can explore your creativity together.
